Why biogas still matters for Uganda’s energy mix

Hydro power is growing, but rural and peri-urban households still need controllable, affordable fuel. Biogas fills a practical gap.

Why biogas still matters for Uganda’s energy mix

Uganda’s electricity supply has expanded, yet many households and farms remain off-grid or face costly power. Biogas—produced from animal dung, kitchen waste, and institutional latrines—offers cooking fuel, lighting, and even generator power when you need it.

Unlike some renewable options, biogas output can be planned around feedstock. The digestate left behind is a nutrient-rich fertiliser that supports gardens and farms.

At Trautbuck Energy we size systems from small household digesters to large industrial advisory work. The right design always starts with a feasibility look at waste availability and how the energy will be used day to day.
